Some restaurants serve dinner. House 509 Bistro & Wine Bar builds an experience around it. Tucked into the walkable heart of O'Neal Village in Greer, South Carolina, this small bistro has become known for one thing you will not find at most restaurants in the Upstate. It lets you taste one dish made three different ways on a single plate.

If you love good food, good wine, and a place that feels personal instead of rushed, House 509 belongs on your list.

Where Is House 509 Bistro & Wine Bar Located

House 509 sits at 100 Wicker Park Ave in Greer, SC 29651, right inside O'Neal Village. O'Neal Village is a mixed-use, walkable community built on roughly 195 acres, with homes, shops, and green space designed to sit close together. That layout is part of why House 509 feels less like a stop on a strip and more like a neighborhood gathering spot.

The bistro sits just off Highway 101, a short drive from downtown Greer, Greenville, and Spartanburg. That easy access makes it a popular pick for date nights, anniversaries, and special occasions from across the Upstate, not just from Greer itself.

Meet the Team Behind House 509

House 509 is owned and run by Chef Guichard "Chef G" Ulysse and Jessica Charles-Ulysse, and the two bring very different backgrounds together at one table.

Chef G was born and raised in Haiti, where he first learned to cook alongside his mother. He later trained at Johnson & Wales University and spent 20 years working his way up through the hospitality industry before opening House 509. In 2026, he was named a South Carolina Chef Ambassador, a recognition given to chefs who represent the state's food culture and support local farms and producers. His cooking blends Haitian roots with French and Southern technique, built around what he calls a journey of flavor, contrast, and surprise.

Jessica grew up on a farm and winery in rural Upstate New York. She earned a food service degree from Syracuse University, completed a dietetic internship at Cornell University, and later added a master's degree in nutritional science from the University of Alabama. Before House 509, she worked as a corporate menu planner and visited more than 75 wineries, building the wine knowledge she now uses to pair every dish on the menu.

Together, they are also part of the O'Neal Village community themselves, not just business owners passing through. That local connection shows up in how the restaurant feels. It is personal, not corporate.

The Entree Flight Concept

This is what sets House 509 apart from almost every other restaurant in Greer. Instead of picking one entree, guests can order a flight, which lets you sample the same protein prepared three different ways on one plate.

During South Carolina Restaurant Week in August 2026, House 509 featured flights like these:

House 509 Flight: Coq au Vin Blanc, a braised chicken thigh in a creamy white wine mushroom sauce. Bourbon Salmon, marinated and served over blue cheese grits. Chimichurri Filet, topped with house-made chimichurri and roasted fingerling potatoes.

Filet Flight: A filet mignon served three ways, with chimichurri, red wine mushroom sauce, or a house-made gorgonzola cream sauce.

Surf and Turf Flight: The same filet flight with a lobster tail added in place of one filet.

Menus change with the seasons, so exact dishes will shift throughout the year. What stays the same is the idea. Every flight is paired with a recommended wine, chosen by Jessica to match the specific flavors on the plate.

The Wine Program

Wine is not an afterthought here. It is built into the name. Guests can order wine by the glass, by a custom flight, or by the bottle, with pairings suggested for nearly every dish on the menu. Custom wine flights are available so guests can try several pours in one sitting.

The wine list rotates with the seasonal menu, and staff are trained to walk guests through pairing choices rather than just pointing at a wine list. For anyone who enjoys learning about wine as much as drinking it, that guidance is part of the draw.

The Food

Beyond the entree flights, House 509 offers a full menu of appetizers, single entrees, and desserts. Past seasonal dishes have included Jerk-Spiced Sea Scallops with pancetta and Tuscan cream, a Caprese Baked Brie with fresh tomato and basil, and Chilean Sea Bass served over lemon risotto. Desserts have featured a classic Creme Brulee and a flourless Chocolate Torte.

Gluten-free items are marked directly on the menu, though guests with severe sensitivities should confirm details with staff, since the kitchen is not a dedicated gluten-free facility.

Events and Community

House 509 is known for building its calendar around themed nights and wine education. Recent events have included a Themed Thursdays wine tasting exploring wines from Australia and New Zealand, and an off-site dinner and music night at The Red Horse Inn in Landrum featuring a six-course tasting menu.

The restaurant also takes part in South Carolina Restaurant Week each year and runs a seasonal Sunday brunch menu, with past features like Shrimp and Grits and a signature 509 Steak and Eggs. Private events and catering are also available for guests planning a wedding, anniversary, or company gathering.

Hours and Location

The Bistro & Wine Bar is located at 100 Wicker Park Ave, Greer, SC 29651. The phone number is 864-663-9926.

Dinner service runs Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and Friday through Saturday from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm. The patio and bar open at 4:30 pm daily on dinner days. The kitchen closes one hour before the end of dinner service each night. House 509 is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, since the dining room is small and seating is limited. The restaurant does not allow outside food or beverages.

Review Summary

House 509 holds a 4.8 star rating based on 110 ratings on Restaurantji, with guests most often praising the food, the wine pairings, and the attentive service from Chef G himself. On Tripadvisor, the restaurant is rated 4.1 out of 5 based on reviews from diners exploring the Greer area. Guests frequently mention the personal touch of the chef stopping by tables and the strength of the entree flight concept as reasons they return.
